Table 1.
Characterization data for the full child sample and for the children who contributed structural MRI data.
Full group (N = 50) | Usable MRI (N = 35) | No MRI (N = 12) | Pairwise comparison: no MRI vs. usable MRI | p-Value | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Sex, M/F | 23/27 | 20/15 | 2/10 | X2 = 5.88 | .015 |
Ages (4-year-olds/6-year-olds) | 22/28 | 11/24 | 8/4 | X2 = 4.61 | .032 |
Full Scale IQ | 114.46 (11.23) | 114.66 (11.65) | 113.92 (10.38) | t45 = −.195 | .846 |
Verbal IQ | 116.96 (11.27) | 117.86 (11.59) | 114.33 (10.30) | t45 = −.933 | .356 |
Nonverbal IQ | 107.55 (13.24) | 106.94 (13.59) | 109.33 (12.56) | t45 = .536 | .595 |
SCQ | 5.06 (3.85) | 5.58 (4.11) | 3.38 (2.33) | t45 = −1.44 | .161 |
Note: Data are mean (SD). IQ was measured using the Kaufman Brief Intelligence Test 2. Higher Social Communication Questionnaire (SCQ) scores represent more social difficulties. Three children were only recruited to complete the behavioral portion. Of the children without MRI data, six declined to be scanned (four 4-year-olds and two 6-year-olds), five were excluded due to excessive movement (three 4-year olds and two 6-year olds), and one child was excluded because of a structural abnormality.
