Proposed biosynthesis of piperazines. The NRPS-like enzymes LnaA and LnaB catalyze the reduction of tyrosine and form an imine dimer. LnaA and LnaB can then reduce the imine dimer to a piperazine. LnaB and LnbB can form a morpholine analog from the imine dimer intermediate, while LnaC and LnbC are proposed to oxidize the imine dimer to a pyrazine analog (not shown).
