AlgU is required for growth during plant infection. Deleting algU mucAB reduces DC3000 D36E growth in N. benthamiana, but this phenotype can be suppressed by deleting fliC or eliminating FLS2 in host plants. The indicated strains were syringe infiltrated at 3 × 10⁴ CFU/ml in N. benthamiana with (FLS2 silenced) or without (nonsilenced) FLS2 virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS).
