The Prohemocytes (a) and the Plasmatocytes (b) are representatives of the nonphagocytic and phagocytic cell types, respectively. Nonphagocytic hemocytes possibly take NPs through general diffusion across the plasma membrane and are thus involved in limited trafficking (c); whereas, the phagocytic cells seem to be involved in the selective/regulated uptake of aggregated NPs (d). Red arrows indicate the nanoparticles.
