Form factor fit results and their comparison with the hydrodynamic radius. RH/Rg reflects the compactness of the species. pD 4 is the most compact of the polymer-alike species, approaching the theoretical limit of a sphere of 1.29. The Kuhn length l is determined under the assumption that the unfolded protein consists of 20 identical beads (N = 20, having on average 7 amino acids per bead for monomeric apoMb). The errors reported for Rg and the Porod exponent are fitting errors, the ones for RH are the standard deviation of the size distribution obtained using the CONTIN algorithm. The reported errors do not account for any systematic sources of error.
