Ferrofluids demonstrate the magnetic field and gradients within the device. In the absence of a magnetic field (diffusion only) the ferrofluid in the acrylic well plate does not respond (a, d). In the presence of a single magnet, the ferrofluid in the wells closest to the magnet respond, while the ferrofluid in further wells does not (b, e).
