Methods Prospective, Randomized.
Participants 20 participants with penetrating colon injuries found at laparotomy; must include one of: >25% circumference injury, shock on arrival, hemorrhage >1500ml, at least three associated organ injuries, fecal contamination, colon resection required; excluded patients that died within 24 hours of injury, patients presenting more than 8 hours after injury, patients operated on at other hospitals, patients not deemed admissible by the surgeon.
Interventions Primary repair with intracolonic bypass OR fecal diversion.
Outcomes Complications, mortality, length of stay, hospital cost.
