Connection between biochemical and biophysical age-associated tissue changes are exemplified in skeletal muscle. With age, composition of ECM becomes altered through changes in FAPs, persistent damage, fibrosis, and inflammation; these age-associated changes make myofibers stiffer and diminish the capacity of ECM for proper storage and activation of growth factors
