The external pH was monitored for 48 h without changing the media. Each result is the average of five experiments.
Mean fluorescence intensity (MFI) is assumed to be proportional to uptake of 3. See the experimental section for a discussion of the limitations of this assumption. All cell lines were treated with 50 μM of 3 in the dark. These experiments were under typical conditions which included changing the media regularly.
