MYBBP1A is a repressor of the transcription factor c-MYB and of the co-activator of transcription PGC-1α, whose expression is regulated positively by c-MYB. The loss of MYBBP1A in cells lacking pVHL induces the activation of c-MYB and PGC-1α, causing the increase in the stem cell phenotype and the metabolic shift to OXPHOS.
