Methods Non randomised controlled trial. 
 Two groups assigned by coin toss. 
 Unblinded outcome assessment.
Participants 418 families of children aged 4‐5 yrs enrolled in 9 government funded preschool enrichment centers for high‐risk children.
Interventions I: Written safety information at home visit; alarms or batteries if needed, other safety devices. 
 C: Written safety information at home visit.
Outcomes Home inspection 3 months after visit: 
 1) Final functioning alarms. 
 2) Functioning alarms acquired.
Notes Loss to follow‐up: I: 17.5%; C: 6.9%.
