Body weight of and virus replication in mice infected with H18N11 viruses. Nine mice per group were anesthetized and inoculated intranasally with 106 TCID50/50 μl of wild-type or mutant H18N11 virus. Three mice per group were euthanized on each of days 3 and 6 postinfection, and their lungs, nasal turbinates, brains, spleens, kidneys, and intestines were collected for virus titration (B to E) in MDCK II cells. (A) The remaining three animals per group were monitored for 14 days for body weight changes and signs of disease. The data shown are mean values with standard deviations.
