Bacillus SLP provides protection from phagocytosis. Muller cells, neutrophil-like HL60 cells, and mouse primary neutrophils were incubated with WT or ΔslpA B. thuringiensis for 90 min. Cells were then treated with gentamicin for 60 min to kill external bacteria. Compared to WT B. thuringiensis, internalization of ΔslpA B. thuringiensis was significantly greater by (A) human retinal Muller cells, (B) neutrophil-like HL-60 cells, and (C) mouse primary neutrophils.
