Stretch induces elevation of [Ca²⁺]_i and [Na⁺]_i in VSMCs. Repetitive mechanical (30 cycles/min) elongation (20% of resting length) produced a significant elevation of [Ca²⁺]_i and [Na⁺]_i in Wt and mdx VSMc, however, the magnitude of the increase of intracellular Ca²⁺ and Na⁺ concentrations was greater in mdx than Wt (A,B). For [Ca²⁺]_i: n_mice = 4/experimental condition, n_cell = 20–28/genotype. For [Na⁺]_i: n_mice = 3/experimental condition, n_cell = 10–19/genotype.
