Reducing Ca2+ influx inhibits stretch-induced elevation of [Ca2+]i in VSMCs. Removal of extracellular [Ca2+] (A) or blocking the mechanosensitive channels using GsMTx4 (5 μM) (B) reduced [Ca2+]i and abolished the increase in [Ca2+]i in response to stretch (20% of resting length) in both genotypes.
