Example of a Domain IV outcome. Here we show a numerical projection for allele frequencies and the associated covariance between the T2 (male attractive display) and P2 (female preference) alleles, DTP. We also show the proportion of matings with T2 males for non-resistant (R1) females, resistant (R2) females, and for matings overall. Male coercion (C2) fixes quickly, whereas female preference is ultimately lost, but slowly. To show both processes, we have displayed generation time on a logarithmic scale. Initial allele frequencies are T2=0.5, P2=0.5, R2=0.05, and C2=0.05; st=sc=0.1, a=4, b=0.9, and γ=1. Again, the frequency of t2 remains constant because of our assumption of maintained diversity at the T locus. The black dotted line in panel C represents the 0.5 threshold at which T1 and T2 males have equal fitness and females mate randomly with respect to attractiveness. See Figure S4 for graphs of the remaining two-way linkages not shown here.
