Note: Means and percentages reported. The universe for indigenous status is restricted to persons age 5+. For those outside of this universe, we apply the indigenous status of the household head. Indigenous group membership is identified using a different variable than the binary indicator of overall indigenous status. Some individuals are identified as indigenous, but their group membership is suppressed or unknown, or they are listed as not in the universe for the group identifer. Of forest-dwelling indigenous individuals, 9,328 are coded this way. This explains the 9,328-observation difference between the unweighted sum of individuals in this table relative to the country-specific figures for all of Mexico.
