The R1771C apo(a) protein persists in the ER. HepG2 cells were transfected with 500 ng of either WT or R1771C apo(a)-GFP cDNA and fixed and imaged by confocal microscopy at 24 or 72 h. Cells were permeabilized and stained for the ER resident marker, calnexin, which was detected with a Alexa Fluor® 594 secondary antibody. Intracellular WT and R1771C apo(a)-GFP were imaged for the presence of transfected apo(a)-GFP (green) and calnexin compartment marker (red). Multiple fields of view were visualized and representative images are shown. Images are also shown as overlays with a DAPI nuclear stain (blue).
