TTC5 binds the ribosome and tubulin N-terminal motif upon increase of free tubulin in the cell. Translation-coupled decay of tubulin mRNA may happen via known mechanisms, such as induction of ribosome collisions or accumulation of slowly translating ribosomes, or TTC5 may help recruit RNA decay factors by other means.
