Video 2.

Simulation of microridge formation. In silico simulation of apical constriction in our biomechanical model recapitulates the centripetal progression of microridge development observed in vivo (left panel). As the cell constricts its surface, surface tension is relieved in a centripetally moving wave, promoting peg coalescence in a similar pattern. For comparison, right panel shows constriction in response to the spatially homogeneous increase in active stress. Frame rate is 14 frames/s.
