Methods Randomised controlled trial. Allocation concealment by sealed opaque envelopes.
Participants Patients with colorectal cancer undergoing elective surgery with resection of the tumour and primary anastomosis.
Interventions 1) Intervention group (n=29) received 20‐25g per day of albumin (as 5% albumin or 20% albumin) for three days, starting on the day after the operation. 
 2) Control group (n=30) received no albumin.
Outcomes Deaths reported.
