Healthy sugar kelp forests (Saccharina latissima, A) disappeared along the southern coast of Norway in 20024751. Large tracts of coast once dominated by sugar kelp now only have scattered individuals, and the seafloor is instead covered by a dense carpet of turf algae (B).
