 • For acute conditions, patient information leaflets improve adherence to treatment in the short-term. For chronic diseases, invasive procedures or screening situations, their impact on adherence varies depending on the context, how they are given and the invasiveness of the intervention [49]. • The provision of counseling of patients and/or physicians by pharmacists may improve adherence, but there is insufficient evidence to support more intensive patient care by pharmacists [9].
