Partial rescue of metabolic indices upon islet-seeded biomaterial implantation into diabetic mice. Islet-seeded biomaterial (n = 6) was intraperitoneal injected into both STZ and NOD mice; control group is empty biomaterial (biomaterial-only; n = 6). Serum samples were collected weekly and assessed for C-peptide, GIP, insulin, leptin, PP, PPY, resistin and amylin hormone secretion in recipient (A) STZ-induced and (B) NOD diabetic mice. Experiments were performed in replicates with 6 mice per group. Data is presented as mean. No values determined after week 6 for STZ-induced and week 5 for NOD diabetic mice due to increasing states of severe morbidity in the control groups.
