Size of polyribosomes increases in the course of translation. Krebs-2 system translating [³²P] βgloFlucA50 mRNA was fractionated by centrifugation in 12 mL 15–45% sucrose gradient after 15 min (a) or 45 min (b) of translation reaction. Radioactivity of 0.5 mL fractions was measured by Cherenkov counting. The absorbance curve representing polysome distribution in HEK293T cell lysate fractionated under the same conditions is given as a reference. Numbers indicate the size of polyribosomes in the corresponding peak.
