(a) Graphical abstract of NanoStringTM-nCounter® based in vivo gene expression analysis in a murine model of systemic cryptococcosis through intranasal instillation. Total RNA was extracted from the infected lung, spleen, kidney, and brain tissues recovered after 3, 7, 14, and 21 dpi. Three mice per cohort were used (total 12 mice). Gene-specific nCounter codesets were designed for 58 published virulence-related genes, 183 kinases, 180 TFs, and 8 housekeeping genes for expression normalisation (Supplementary Data 1 and Supplementary Fig. 3). (b-e) Fold-change heatmap of in vivo gene expression of (b) 58 published (known) virulence-related genes, (c) 42 lung-infection-related genes, (d) 22 brain-infection-related genes, and (e) 43 core-virulence genes.
