We define the number of subtypes of a relationship as a measure of its complexity. Subtypes can be categorical — one subtype of ride can be expressed as <person - ride - bike> while another is <dog - ride - surfboard>. Subtypes can also be spatial—carry has a subtype with a small object carried to the side and another with a large object carried overhead.
