Figure 1. Prolonged presence of viral RNA in PBMCs.

Macaques were infected intratracheally with the WT Bilthoven strain of measles virus (MeV). Viremia was measured by cocultivation of serially diluted PBMCs on Vero/hSLAM cells and data from individual macaques are presented as the log(TCID50)/106 PBMCs (red lines). MeV N gene RNA in PBMCs was measured by qRT-PCR (black lines). Assays were run in duplicate with a standard of 1 × 101 to 1 × 108 copies of MeV RNA. MeV RNA load was normalized to GAPDH. Results are expressed as [(MeV N RNA copies)/(GAPDH RNA copies)] × 5000.
