Graph showing BDA/SYN colabeled bouton density (least squares means +/− SE) versus spinal cord position, analyzed from 7 rats (control n=2, short term lesion n=3, long term lesion n=2). Since the short and long term lesion groups had no significant effect on this outcome, the two lesioned groups (see Table 1) were regrouped together. For ease of visualization, data are binned by rostral and caudal halves of each vertebral segment, and the Y axis is transformed accordingly. Least squares means and SEs were obtained from sqrt-transformed data, as in the corresponding statistical analysis.
