The subplate layer is rich in extracellular matrice (ECM). (A) Immunostaining revealed that the SP layer is rich in Neurocan (Neuronal CSPG). Subplate neurons (SpNs) were labeled with GFP (arrows) by in utero electroporation at E10.5 and fixed at E16. (B) Toluidine Blue staining, Lpar1-EGFP mouse and electron microscopic observation of the sections at E17 clearly indicate morphology of SpNs. White arrows indicate SpNs and yellow arrowheads indicate migrating neurons. (C) Higher magnification of SpNs of the Lpar1-EGFP mouse cortex at the E17 stage.
