This table provides several examples of infectious organisms which have been implicated in the pathogenesis of primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC). Strong evidence exists for some organisms such as Escherichia coli, while weaker evidence exists for others. This may be due to the lack of investigation into the prevalence of some organisms in PBC.
