Basal temperature. Temperatures were measured using a subcutaneous implantable temperature transponder. Preinfection values from each ferret were averaged to obtain a baseline temperature. Following challenge, temperatures were measured once daily at approximately the same time each day. The change in temperature (in degrees Fahrenheit) is represented at each time point for each group of animals.
