Calcium | Phosphorus | |||
Dystrophic calcification | 18 | 8.85a,b (1.30) | 5.65a,b (0.90) | 1.57a (0.05) |
Heterotopic ossification | 34 | 7.03a (0.89) | 4.53 (0.53) | 1.55a (0.05) |

Calcium and phosphorus content were determined by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and Ca/P ratio was calculated. Data are means (standard deviations) for regions of dystrophic calcification (2 spines; 18 regions total), heterotopic ossification (3 spines; 34 regions total), and unaffected cortical bone (3 spines; 13 regions total).
aSignificantly greater than corresponding parameter for cortical bone (P < 0.05).
bSignificantly greater than corresponding parameter for heterotopic ossification (P < 0.05); as determined using one-way ANOVA with Bonferroni’s multiple comparisons test.
