Table 5.2.

Composition of plasmatic L1LDL and L5LDL (low-density lipoprotein subfractions) from hypercholesterolemic humans (Sources: [769, 771])

L1LDL L5LDL
Core
CE (38%), TG (4%) CE (20%), TG (7%)
Periphery
Proteins (25%) Proteins (40%)
ApoB100 (99% LDL proteins) ApoB100 (60% LDL proteins),
ApoA1, ApoC3, ApoE, ApoA
CS (8%), PLd (25%) CS (8%), PLd (25%)

Spherical LDLs contain an apolipoproteic (Apo) framework, phospholipids (PLd) and free cholesterol (CS) on their surface, and triglycerides (TG) and cholesteryl esters (CE) at their core. Compared with L1LDL, L5LDL has a greater content of proteins and TGs, but a smaller amount of cholesteryl esters
