Cyclooxygenase 2 inhibition blunts production of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and prostaglandin F2 alpha (PGF2α) in culture media of human nucleus pulposus (hNP) cells activated by interleukin (IL)-1 or tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α. hNP cells were maintained in alginate beads, activated by IL-1±Sc-58125 (Sc) or TNF-α±Sc and conditioned media harvested after 72 hours for prostaglandin measurement.
