Histological evaluation of morphological changes in livers of rats treated with CCl₄ (A and B), CCl₄ + silymarin (C and D), and CCl₄ + chokeberry (E and F). Control livers are presented in figures (G and H). H&E and Masson staining. Note the similar extent of fibrosis in rats treated with CCl₄ and with CCl₄ + chokeberry (arrows on A, B, E, and F). The number of vacuolated hepatocytes is significantly reduced in CCl₄ + chokeberry-treated rats (E and F) as compared to CCl₄-treated animals. This alteration is accompanied by the increased expression of lymphocyte infiltration. Scale bar: 200 µm.
