Examples of EU projects related to oceanographic and coastal multiparametric monitoring, where platform and cyber-infrastructure developments could serve as a model for benthic ecology-oriented networks. Projects reproduce different operative scenarios using a variety of sensors, platforms, and sets of Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) protocols (e.g., Sensor Web Enablement; SWE, Programmable Underwater Connector with Knowledge; PUCK (standard protocol), and Sensor Observation Service; SOS), in order to demonstrate the feasibility of the use of standards to achieve such a degree of interoperability.
