Frameshift mutations in rsbS produce a polar effect resulting in the inhibition of RsbT translation. Western blot images were obtained from total protein extractions of stationary-phase WT, ΔsigB, and transposon mutant strains grown at 37°C. Western blots were probed with rabbit polyclonal anti-RsbT (A) and anti-σB (B) antibodies. Arrows point to the respective proteins, RsbT with a predicted size of 14.7 kDa and σB with a predicted size of 29.5 kDa.
