A 3-week-old red and white Holstein calf with chronic diarrhea and emaciation caused by rotavirus and Cryptosporidium infection. The calf was normally hydrated and had normal electrolytes but was deteriorating because of malabsorption/maldigestion and cachexia. This is one of the first calves we successfully treated using parenteral nutrition (1982).
