The ∆clsABC1 E. coli BKT12 mutant lacks detectible CL regardless of growth phase. The cells were grown in the presence of [³²P]PO₄. Strain W3110 (WT) and BKT12 ∆clsABC1 strains with the indicated cls gene deletions were grown in LB medium containing 10 g/L of NaCl and [³²P]PO₄ to either mid-log phase (log) or to stationary phase (stat). Phospholipids were extracted and analyzed by one-dimensional TLC as described in Materials and Methods.
