Two schematics of cortico-nuclear organization. (A) The conventional scheme in which the same MF projects to the cerebellar cortex (CBX) and DN both of which belong to the same corticonuclear complex (Ito, 1984). (B) Proposed scheme that one MF (MFa) from pontine nuclei (PN) projects to the cerebellar cortex (i.e., cerebro-cerebellum; CBXa) without collateral projection to DN, whereas another, separate MF (MFb) projects to DN. Note that MFa and MFb have distinct projection areas in the cerebellar cortex, CBXa, and CBXb, respectively. This scheme is consistent with the requirements of the Kalman-filter model.
