First, impermeable HB enters cells permeabilized by 2B protein and inhibits translation (see Discussion). 2. HB diffuses through gap junctions to non‐transfected cells in close contact with 2B‐expressing cells, resulting in inhibition of protein synthesis of these cells. 3. HB is transferred to a larger number of neighbouring cells.
