A) Boundaries demarcating the Plasma Membrane (PM) and Postsynaptic Density (PSD) are shown in blue and orange respectively. B) Snapshots of calcium ion concentration throughout the domain are also shown for several time points. We apply a voltage corresponding to a back propagating action potential and excitatory postsynaptic potential. NMDAR localized at the PSD membrane, open in response to the voltage and calcium flows into the cell. Over time, the NMDAR close, and calcium is scavenged by calcium buffers.
