Participants Inclusion
  • Women undergoing CS.

Exclusion
  • Hypersensitivity to drugs being used; any antibiotic treatment 2 weeks prior to surgery; chorioamnionitis.

Interventions Intervention: cephalosporin (B3).
  • Cefotoxime.

  • 1 g IV.

  • N = 100.


Comparison: penicillin (A2) + aminoglycoside (G) combination.
  • Cloxacillin (1 g, 8‐hourly for 48 hours) followed by oral cloxacillin (500 mg, 8‐hourly for 72 hours. Also gentamycin (80 mg IV/IM 12‐hourly for 5 days).

  • N = 100.

Outcomes Postpartum infection; wound infection; fever; duration in hospital.
