Sometimes, a single patient suffered from more than one disease. In these cases, the sum of the number of cases per illness was greater than the actual number of patients (n = 90).

Degenerative disc disease was only diagnosed in patients with symptoms who mainly complained about low back pain. The diagnosis was made according to the criteria reported by Tonosu et al.²⁸.
