Inhibitory effects of colonic flavonoid metabolites and ticlopidine (TIC, positive control; 20 μM each) on the CYP2C19-catalyzed S-mephenytoin (5 μM) hydroxylation. 2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzoic acid (2H4MBA), 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid (34DHBA), hippuric acid (HIPA), and O-desmethylangolensin (DESMA) caused statistically significant (** p < 0.01) but only weak inhibition of the enzyme.
