elbow angle β = atan2[||L1 × L2||, (L1. L2)], atan2 is the four-quadrant inverse tangent function, L1 = [X6X7 Y6Y7 Z6Z7], L2 = [X7X8 Y7Y8 Z7Z8 , L1 × L2 and L1. L2 are the cross and dot operations, respectively, and ||.|| is the norm operator.

The parameters X, Y, and Z refer to the joint locations along the X, Y, and Z axes (Figure 2), respectively
