Asterisks indicate statistically significant values in MS when compared to those in HC. No differences in age and gender distributions were attested.

MS, multiple sclerosis; HC, healthy controls; EDSS, Expanded Disability Status Scale; WML, white matter lesions in ml; BPV, brain parenchymal volume in mm3.
