Data are presented as median and ranges. Age-corrected citation rates are calculated from the absolute number of citations divided by the years since publication of an article up to 2019 as the latest year with complete citation counts. Statistically significant differences were found for Germany between 1985–1988 and both 2000–2003 (P = 0.0002) and 2015–2018 (P <0.0001).
