Metabolic chemical reporters. (A) Metabolic chemical reporters (MCRs) of protein glycosylation are traditionally per-O-acetylated, azide- or alkyne-bearing analogs of naturally-occurring monosaccharides. Upon treatment of living cells, MCRs can then be metabolized, resulting in protein labeling.
